"I cannot live without books" part II

EMILY BRÖNTE, "Wuthering Heights"

p.146 :

"Catherine, what have you done ?

Am I nothing to you, any more ?

Do you love that wretch, Heathcliff ?"

 (...)

I don't want you, Edgar;

I'm past wanting you..

.Return to your books...

I'm glad you possess a consolation,

for all you had in me is gone".

p.343 :

"No books,

I exclaimed.

How do you contrive to live here without them ?

If I may take the liberty to enquire

- Though provided with a large library,,

I'm frequently very dull at the Grange

 - take my books away,

and I should be desperate".

WUTHERING HEIGHTS AND THE BIBLE

After a dog assault poor narrator Lockwood reacts with a bible quotation on his landlord Heathcliff :

"...What the devil is the matter ? Heathcliff asked (...) What the devil indeed ! I mutttered. The herd of possessed swine could have had no worse spirits in them than those animals of yours, sir. You might as well leave a stranger with a brood of tigers !" (p.49)
Answer of Heathcliff : "The dogs do right to be vigilant".

See Mark 4, 5 : "Out, unclean spirit, come out of this man ! Jesus asked him, What is your name ? My name is Legion, he said. Now there happened to be a large herd of pigs feeding on the hill-side, and the spirits begged him , Send us among the pigs and let us go into them. And the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs. And the herd , of about two thousand, rushed over the edge into the lake and were drowned..." Then they begged Jusus to leave the district.
